How To Clean Kitchen Trash Can?

The various methods of cleaning a kitchen trash are described in this blog including methods that use home ingredients.

A dustbin or trash can be formally described as a container which is specifically kept to hold the household trash which has to be expelled from the house.

There are various types of trash cans. Some people prefer two trash cans, one blue and one green. Having two trash cans is a good thing you can do in order to contribute to the whole responsible trash campaign.

The green trash can is designated for wet waste. Wet waste does not necessarily mean that it is physically wet; it generally means natural, biodegradable waste.

For example dry leaves. This trash is used to make compost. The blue bin is for recyclable trash like plastic bottles, paper bags, etc.

Some people might not notice it, but a trash can also deserves to be clean. The frequency of cleaning depends on certain factors. If you directly dispose your trash into the trash can, then it will tend to get dirty much faster.

Another great practice that many people follow is to use bags. These bags are supposed to be placed inside dustbins and when you have to take the trash out, you may simply remove the bag. These kinds of dustbins will be relatively cleaner and will require milder cleaning methods.

In this blog, we will be discussing the various methods that you can use in order to keep your dustbin clean. Since the dustbin is also a breeding ground for bacteria and other germs, we will also have to inform you about various methods to disinfect it.

How to clean a trash can

Before diving into scrubbing your trash can like a maniac, check the material your trash can is made of. If the trash can has a metal polish, then scrubbing is not such a great idea. The polish can be easily destroyed. So we suggest you check with the manufacturer before trying any new cleaning methods.

Using detergent

Take a medium-sized bowl and put 2 cups of detergent into it. Add 3 cups of water to the mixture. Take the dustbin outside along with the bowl. Without touching much, pour the paste into the dustbin. Try to spread it as evenly as possible. Let this sit for 2 hours. Using a good brush or steel wool, scrub the trash can properly. You may use a brush like a scotch Brite household scrubber brush. Using baking soda and vinegar

Clean the dustbin once using just water. If the dustbin’s condition is not good, then rinse once with soapy water. The next step is to sprinkle baking soda over the dustbin. Leave it overnight.

Next morning, take a scrubbing tool; it can be a brush, steel wool or even a good cloth. Dip it into vinegar and scrub properly. Let it be for 20 minutes and rinse properly with water.

Boiling water method

Use this if the dustbin is in a very bad condition. Pour boiling water generously over the dustbin. Make another mixture of water and vinegar. Pour equal parts water and vinegar into a pot. Bring it to a boil and pour over the dustbin. Let it be for about fifteen minutes. Scrub and rinse properly. You can buy Health kart natural white vinegar on amazon. Click here to check its page

Using “Do It Yourself” methods

Disinfectant 1

Take a regular fridge bottle of 1 liter. Add water but do not fill it till the top because we will be adding some things. Add a few camphor balls you can get it from any nearby departmental store. It acts as a disinfectant. It keeps mosquitoes and flies away.

You may crush and add them. After that, add three or four tablespoons of salt. This also works as a disinfectant and keeps insects away. Then we are adding alum. It plays an important role in cleaning the water. Adding essential oils is optional but you may add a few drops to give your cleaner some fragrance. Leave this mixture for one night.

You may still use it even if the camphor and alum are not fully dissolved. You need to make sure that you keep this away from children. Keep it safely labeled in a place where your children can not access it. Put some of it on a cloth and wipe the whole trash can properly with this solution.

Disinfectant 2

Take a bottle of 1 liter. Add half a liter of water into it. Add 100 ml vinegar into the water. The next step is to add 2 teaspoons of baking soda. A reaction will take place and foam will be produced, but it is temporary. Add three to four drops of dish soap. Adding a few drops of essential oil is optional but it will add a nice fragrance to your disinfectant. Take a spray bottle and fill it with this mixture. You may spray your dustbin and wipe with a good cloth once a week or two.
